Hi, I picked up a early Proto 2 Philadelphia Red Arrow Lines Brill trolley that was in a set made back around 2001? It was never on the track and before I added it to the remote I installed a 9v BCR so I wouldn't fry the board. Everything works fine except it dont show any information except the location number on the remote. It dont say what it is.  When I try to add a name it says engine error when I clock D. Is there a trick to adding a name or will I have to just live with it?

Gene,

First, if the trolley lacks a name, it's most likely because it has a replacement PS2 board. These boards come with a blank name. Further, the person who swapped the boards either didn't have the Service Loader Program or just neglected to name the board.

The reason that you cannot give the trolley a Custom Name is simply that subways and trolleys cannot be given a Custom Name. That memory on their PS2 board is used for transit station stop programming and data.

The only way that you can name the trolley is to find someone who has a copy of the MTH Service Loader program, who can give the trolley a permanent name. Typically, only MTH trained techs are allowed to have the Service Loader Program.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
