Re: early ps2/3v aa battery conversion to bcr2

Hello Everybody,

need a little help with a conversion. I have an MTH 20-3107 PRR Duplex steamer with the early ps2/3v setup with the 2 aa batteries in a holder. This is in the tender. I have a BCR2 that I was going to install until I discovered that there is no place for it to plug into. The black and red leads from the factory battery holder are wired directly and soldered to a small board. So I'm thinking to just cut the black and red wire leads from the battery holder and fit the ends of the wires into a ps2/3v two pin connector that MTH uses, and the BCR2 would plug into that. Problem is that there are no parts drawings for this engine on MTH's website nor can I find any information on the part number for the connector. haven't been able to get in touch with MTH this week. Does anyone know what the ps2/3v two pin connector part number is or anyone have one(or two-in case I screw one up) that they might have available for sale.

Thanks for your reply and offer. I am not an electrical guy and didn't know what the connectors were called-now I know they are molex. I appreciate your insight and advice. I stopped at Mercer Junction today and Dave Minarek was able to help me and had the connector that I needed for my conversion.

I found this thread. Having the same issue. What is the best way to install a BCR with this setup? Trace the power wires and make cuts, then add a connector?

Yes, make sure you have the correct BCR or BCR2, and make sure you get the polarity correct or it will be bad!

While on this topic, do MTH PS2 engines use different molex connectors? As in female/male for the recharging cables? So BCRs vary per engine sometimes?

Folks you need to contact Gunrunner John I believe he can give all the information you need to order that connecter, pins and crimping tool from a source outside of MTH. He builds those BCR’s with the connecter so he has a source.

I make these. They plug directly into the PS/2 3V top board, just remove what's connected there.

Anyone can make them, you can even reuse the battery connector. Or just solder BCR into the battery harness. No terminals or connectors needed. G
