Ebay Purchase

Don't bother if you like them. The ad copy was simply puffery, if you couldn't pull the metrics you would never know.

A lot of folks on the bay are dumping used trains saying they are great runners, blah blah Blah. I got burned on a B&O Pacific 4-6-2 Blue/gray president Harrison this Christmas, it is in need of some serous repairs, but they are hard to find in the version so I resided to keep it.  I will remember the seller.

I buy from the OGR forum.  Not a week goes buy that I do not hear of some screwing someone got from fleabay.  Remember, you only get what you pay for.   I have heard all the stories and I will not work on anything that comes from that site.  

You're not being picky but it's not worth the hassle.  Just leave negative feedback and move on.

Do not leave somebody negative feedback until you contact them and give them the chance to make it right.

Maybe the seller didn't have MTH equipment, could not check the log and went by inspection.

I run DCS quite a bit. I would have no idea how to check the mileage etc. My point is the seller may be someone who can do the very basics, and that's it.

Contact them first and report your finding to them. Wait for their response then give feedback.

O-Gauge forum a lot nicer

I saw one ad that said "mint in box, only a few scratches."  Pictures showed a nice used item with a few good size, deep scratches.  Funny what you see in some posts.  That said, I have had good luck on the site and find items I can't get elsewhere, including this forum.

I bought a 3rd Rail N&W K3 described as "NIB" from one of the largest sellers on eBay. There was even a picture of a hand written piece of paper to "prove" is was new. Turned out it was "BIB" (broken in box) and obviously very used. I did contact them. We could not even reach an agreement that NIB means "New In Box". In the end, zero satisfaction and I left negative feedback.

Use your own discretion when leaving feedback. Depending upon the seller, positive or negative will likely changes  nothing.

That's great Marty. I got ripped off on the last purchase I made from an ad on this forum. At least on EBay you have some recourse. Here on OGR you are stuck, you are not allowed to post about your experience.

I'd guess that 99 out of 100 people here are trustworthy. But that 1 is out there.

I too had a problem with a purchase on this Forum (the seller misrepresented his item's running condition). Neither site comes without risks. But as Charlies points out, on Ebay you do have recourse.
