Electric RR Mini Commander EX and Railsounds Commander

If it is the new RS Cdr (one integrated board) you need the Dummy Board.  IF you have the old Powered Mother board with RS 4 modular attachment the EX can work.   G

Something to try...

I put a 1N914 diode  it series with the data line from the mini to the Audio board with the cathode side towards the audio board.

The data out of the mini seems to be able to drive the audio board’s data line now.

Without the diode the mini thinks the program/run switch is on.  

Or you can make a buffer board like this.

If you want to isolate the serial data from the other boards, try this.

Oh, I see Carl posted something similar in his graphic.   Jon Z. from Lionel suggested reducing the emitter resistor to 100 ohms, I originally had it as a 470.

I was able to acquire the dummy board, and now the sounds and the motor are in synch.

A final question about the headlights. The instructions for the dummy board show the LED's attached directly to the output on the board, but I've heard stories about having to put resistors in series with the LED's. If I need need resistors as well, how many ohms should they be?

What exact dummy board did you get?  Is this it?

The invoice lists it as DMLC, and the schematic Ken sent me calls it an RCDR. It's about the size of a postage stamp. It does have a single 9-pin socket on it. But the 9-pin socket is closest to the bottom of the board if you hold it so the socket is on the right side. That picture looks like it might be a slightly different board.

That's the board, my image was from a flier that they sent out some time ago, obviously, the image is mirror imaged in some fashion, very odd.  It connects directly to a single LED.

That's the exact schematic I got. Just wanted to be sure.
