To show my lack of knowledge. What type of engine is needed for either of the up grades? Does it have to be TMCC or something like a simple and plain , Lionel 6-8615 steam engine, a RTR engine??
Just asking, I would like to have a conventional engine up graded so it will run slower. It may be cheaper to buy a Legacy but I would want an L&N steam engine.

For the upgrade, you just need an engine with a DC motor (if you want cruise) or AC motor (no cruise option). For the super chuffer, you will need a fan driven smoke unit.
Your product number seems to be missing a number - nothing comes up for the supplied: 6-8615.
If it is an atlantic 4-4-2 with the small toy can motor, you would be better just getting a DC Commander and not worrying about cruise. Some cheaper motors and 3 pole, do not work well with back emf, so you would be wasting money. G
I've used the Cruise Commander Lite in the Hogwarts Express engine with the smaller set motor, it runs just fine with cruise. You can usually tell if the motor is going to have an issue with the back-EMF cruise by manually turning it without power. Any motor that exhibits strong "cogging" effects will likely have issues with the cruise. However, if you don't feel a strong cogging action, it'll probably be fine with the back-EMF cruise.
That is a flywheel motor, I am talking about the RTR side frame motors. They are much cheaper. That is what I think he has. G
Well, I actually have put cruise in several of those as well several years back. I have the CC-Lite in the K-Line Interurban set with the truck mounted motors, no flywheels and very cheap. Runs like a champ.
