Hello everyone,
Here's a 3rd Rail conventional electric Rat ( I think that's their name ) I just upgraded with ERR cruise lite and electric sounds, these engines are chain driven and had abrupt starts and stops. I thoroughly cleaned all the gears and gearboxes, then lubed them up and we now have ultra slow operation

Pete there's two small motors one in each unit

I hope you put the PTC in series with one of the motor leads. My experience with the chain drive is it pulls a lot more current than the vertical motors on typical Lionel and MTH stuff.

Instead of the PTC , i installed a 6 ohm wire wound resistor lol !!!
This will be the first electric engine with a lot of smoke lol. All jokes aside , i did install the PTC
