In the spirit of the thread on favorite top 3 train movies, what's your favorite 'railfan' type train video? Could be commercial VHS, DVD or even online content. I mean the kind of stuff that NRHS chapters used to show at meetings but nobody goes anywhere to watch anymore.

For me, Herron's "Glory Machines," VOLUME 1 is the gold standard of train videos. Classic old (mostly color) film, decent sound, and covers a great number of railroads. It even has a several-minute segment of my beloved ET&WNC, taken sometimes between 1940 and 42...

Well, I don't know if I've found a favorite yet!  I only recently started searching for train videos on YouTube.  The History of Steam Locomotives is the first full length video I've watched.  In that video there is a clip of the UP 844 rescuing a stalled diesel freight train.  That is hands down my favorite clip.

My dad's Lionel 671rr was the engine that started my love of the hobby.  I have been researching the S2 on and off for the past 15 years or so.  I found 1 short clip of it pulling out of Chicago.  That one ranks up there simply because it seems such a rare find.

For now, I am watching the UP 844 primarily but also the UP  3985, NP 765, and SP 4449.

The Santa Fe Warbonnets are another favorite of mine dating back to my childhood.  Possibly the next google search...

Oy!  That's a tough one!  The discs I turn to most often are collections of old RR films from the 50's and earlier.  One set, "Railroads: Tracks Across America" has "Last of the Giants", "The Nickel Plate Story" and "The Modern Coal Burning Steam Locomotive" among the 36 films on the 2 DVD's.  12 1/2 hours plus makes great viewing when broadcast TV leaves a lot to be desired!
