My repair guy needs this part and he's saying (confirmed already) that MTH is telling him the part is unavailable.

I asked him if he would be offended if I asked around and he had no problem with that suggestion.  So, I'm asking :-)

It's a PS-3 drawbar for the tin-plate Christmas train issued 2 or 3 years ago (set (or engine?) 11-5509-1).

Thanks - walt

Walt,

HMMMM

I wouldn't get carried away thinking that the person that you've been using to repair your MTH products isn't a "real MTH tech".

MTH school, which I've attended twice myself, teaches how to diagnose MTH products and effect repairs on, primarily, a parts-replacement basis. The subject of component-level repairs isn't really in the curriculum.

People like George (GGG) are a cut above in that they have made it a priority to be able to effect component-level repairs. George has been an authorized MTH tech for many years and I would trust him with any component-level repair of which he felt confident that he could effect. He has made an investment both in additional tools (soldering rework station, etc.) and also taken the time to educate himself as regards exactly what components do what on MTH electronics.

Guys like George are a cut above most other MTH techs as regards component-level repairs. Others, such as Marty Fitzhenry (who has been an MTH tech since dirt was new), are among the very, very best at diagnosis of a plethora of MTH possible engine issues. He can figure out the root cause of most any MTH engine problem and prescribe a solution.

Holding others to the standard that guys like George and Marty set isn't really fair. These guys are exceptional.

Ralph,

Thank you for the very forum-friendly reply.  Luckily (for me!) my repair guy called me just yesterday and said that his supply finally came in, so he is able to do my repair.

I would have bought it from you otherwise.  Something tells me you'll have NO trouble finding buyers, based on what my repair guy, and others on this forum, said about getting these things.

thanks again - walt
