You have really made a lot of fantastic progress in a short amount of time.  It must be because of your great assistants!  I love seeing the kids pictures.  I do want to comment on your scenery.  That scene of the rock cut is tremendous.  So is the stream with the girder bridge.  I love the post office and the curved stove pipe.  So it looks like you are getting ready to expand into another part of the room.  That's great!

Well the benchwork for phase II of my layout is just about done and I'll probably start laying track next week. I got my Bowser turntable working but I have to get another bridge for it since I accidentally dropped the current one. Some of the other projects included adding the rest of the backdrops to phase I and completing more scenery. I have just about all the track for phase II but I will need to purchase some other turnouts to get it totally operational.

Time for a layout update. During October and November I was able to get most of the track laid on phase II of the layout. In addition, the coal mine is also nearing completion.  During December I will be concentrating on completing the small yard and getting the turntable operational.

Today I was back at it roughing in some scenery terrain with pink foam board and masking tape. My little helper was pulling wire.

can you share the dimensions of the layout and the size of the curves?

Its basically a large oval with the center open for viewing and operating the trains.

dimensions of phase I are 18x12 with the depth being 32". The second phase makes it into a large L shaped  20' L  30" depth.  I used mostly 080 curves everywhere. The height of the layout is set at 50"

I will post an an aerial shot to give you better understanding.

Thanks for the update GEF.  Layout is coming along nicely.  I see in your profile that you are from Mount Airy, MD.  I use to live in Thurmont, MD up until 2008.  Ended up moving to Chambersburg, PA to get a bigger house so I could build a bigger layout.

Did you or do you every go to Catoctin Mountain Trains and Hobbies?

Johnny,  We been in Frederick Co almost a year now. We really love the area. If you ever get down this way give me a shout. Your more than welcome to come on by and run some trains.

I've been to Catoctin Mtn a few times. They have a great inventory of items and the owners are very nice people. Wish I was a tad bit closer though. I also frequent the Train Depot.

Paul and the gang at Catoctin Mtn Trains are great people to deal with.  I might take you up on your offer.  Maybe after the holidays.  Also, you are more than welcome to come up to PA and check out my layout too.
