I'm doing all the revisions to my train room in a top down manner, so I started with revising the shelves near the ceiling, etc, as I posted last week.  Today I added 26 feet of new shelves, these three tiered oak-shelves that will store/display my pre- and post-war collection of locos (left shelf) and a bunch of passenger cars and a spare loco or two (longer shelf on the right side).

This is a difficult area to get to: as you can see the edge of the longer shelves is alongside the stairs and it is difficul/impossible to reach the end of these shelves to load and unload cars and locos from the tracks that will be on them.

So the shelve pivots on a post located behind it.  Here you see it rotated so one can stand at the top of the stars and comfortably reach the edge of the shelves.  I really like how these worked out.

What was the result of that line of thinking/discussion with your wife  if I may ask?

My wife told me I was welcome to move to anywhere I wanted with a larger trainroom: no doubt I would have a lot of room for trains because only one person would be living there.

Seriously, I like my layout and it's big enough: frankly it's about all I can take care of, so I am concentrating not on expanding it, but making it and the train-room better, not bigger.   Don Jones (DG Jones) has visited twice recently and we've talked about ways i could knock out walls, etc.  I admit that it would be fun to have a bunch of new territory to build out.  But ultimately I would fill it up and be just where I am now, so I will stick with what I have, which, as I said, is about all I can take care of.

I have months of fun work on my plan to really improve things.  It is going to be a lot of fun.
