I recently received the above engine and it seems the motors do not engage the truck assembly all the time.  The engine powers up, railsounds function and when I attempt to have the engine move the motors sound as if they are spinning but not moving the trucks.  I removed the shell and turned the motor armature but the trucks did not spin and vice versa when I turned the trucks the armature did not spin.  There has been a couple of times when the drive engages the trucks and the engine moves, but when I reverse the engine it returns to no movement.  This happens in both conventional and command mode.  Is there a signal sent to the engines to engage the trucks for movement?  Removing the trucks does not seem like a solution because it is on both motors.  I believe it is more electronic than mechanical.  Please help.  Thanks

I had a similar problem with a 1995-ish new old stock Dash 8 (magnetraction universal motors)  Rear motor armature spun, but wheels didn't.  Old hardened grease would not allow the drive gear to mesh.  Solvent and a pick cleaned it up and new grease, along with adjusting the armature " up and down" play fixed it.
