My first choice is to buy from a forum member, but I will go the eBay route if that is the only way.

I've noticed a couple of WTB's you've posted for items that are in high demand these days.  Understand that the premium you'd be paying for these right now really has nothing to do with their scarcity or anything like that... but rather has everything to do with the perception that owners/buyers enjoy owning something "hot" that they'll be able to flip for a few bucks profit whenever the mood strikes them. 

Of course, there are exceptions to this.  But in general that's what's driven the prices where they are today.  Once this perception fades, the prices will come back to reasonable levels (i.e., the GEVO had an $875 MSRP with an under-$800 street price when initially delivered)... so be careful that you really want them when the music stops playing and you're left standing after paying today's premium prices.

Good advice!  Also, Lionel could do a reissue which could really sink things.

There are only a few things I want.  Fortunately for my wallet, my space is small.  Never sold anything yet.

Keep in mind that the hybrid loco never actually pulled ethanol cars.  It's purely Lionel marketing to pair those together.  Buy them if you want them, not because Lionel said they go together.

I agree.....good advice.  I, too have been looking for this item, but the premium people are charging for it is absurd.

If they reissued the GEVo it would most likely not be a diecast body. Either way though I do have the Ethanol cars in very good condition but I am only wanting to trade for some Westinghouse items I've been after for awhile.

Good advice David, but I don't that loco dropping below $1k anytime in the foreseeable future…!!!
