Genset Rain Protected smoke stacks

I would like to buy some of these...anybody have any? I bought a used Genset and a couple of these have crushed hinges.

I also need four sliding windows if Lionel won't let me have any...

Does your smoke work on that engine?

The proper amount of fluid is a bit tricky. Too much and too little are very close together. But once I get it inbetween, it pours out smoke. I was tempted to take it apart and repack the smoke, but am kind of looking to see what I will have to deal with in taking it apart. The only you tube video I have found is for the one smoke unit variety of genset.

On the Vision Genset, it has three separate smoke units.  They are controlled by a  smoke fan control board.  They are very easy to remove and service.  I pull the pre cut pad out and replace it with the rope wicking.  If you see smoke coming out, don't hope to make it better.    Be happy to see smoke.

The biggest issue with the VL Genset is all the delicate added on parts.  Oh, and do NOT hold it by any windows, they pop out if you look at them!

When you get it running right, it's a very cool rig.  I use the flapper stacks for demo only, when I want to run it for any length of time, I put the straight stacks on it.  The flappers get gummed up with smoke fluid after a spell and you have to wash them off by dipping them in alcohol and swishing them around.  They're then ready for another 10-15 minutes and they'll start sticking again.

The flapper stacks on this one had bent hinges like it had been rested on the stacks, one I could not straighten so to keep the image, I glued the flap open. The other two are pretty much fine. The glued one looks ok, but I'm looking for some of these. It's smoking ok so far, but repacking with the 691SMKP008  is a good idea I think. We repacked a Lionel Veranda Turbine the other day and it smoked great...like an MTH I assume

The difference between the single smoke unit genset and the Vision genset is remarkable. The single smoke unit one is kind of boring.

Boring, but a good running unit.   I have worked on many Vision Genset locomotives.  I do not own one for reasons.   Some of what John stated for openers.  I wish everyone great luck with the locomotive.  I have a few MTH Genset locomotives.  The MBTA runs one in my neighborhood and I catch it often going by.  I am a big power fan and two motors in my book beats one any day of the week.

Marty, I have to admit that the single motor threw me in the VL Genset, but it's a pretty good puller, probably because it weights a ton with the diecast shell.

No problem with the pulling power.
