Stan - you are correct. 

G - my other PS3 steamer that does coast is a 30-1570-1. I also have a PS3 30-20053-1 (Dash 8 Diesel) that does coast just fine. I did have, but sold last year to fund another purchase was an 30-20211-1 ES44 Diesel. The ES44 also coasted just fine. 

I do not have any other PS3 engines. Per MTH/Andy, two motored diesels and steam (articulated) should work just fine. I certainly hope my long awaited 44 ton switcher does not have a no coasting issue. Andy said I should not. The loco that started this "no coasting" issue was an 30-1651-1. I did sell it to again fund another purchase.

I have not and all indications I've seen have shown it not to fix anything.

EDIT - I take that back. The Imperial Long Island Mikado was delivered with the wrong sound file. It didn't coast before the change in sound file and nothing changed after.

Seems to me we're "making a mountain out of a molehill".  In conventional mode, all my PS2, PS3 and TMCC  engines will stop abruptly if I pull back the throttle quickly.  All of them will come to a nice gradual stop if you pull back  the throttle slowly.  Are we looking for a problem that doesn't exist?

The only engine I own that will "coast" to a stop if you pull the throttle back quickly is my Atlas 0-6-0.  It' not running, but that's another story.

Sorry, this is different than an abrupt stop. This is a much more "violent" (for lack of a better word) issue in conventional with new PS3 steam locos. It derails trains, shreds traction tires, and can, overtime, damage engines. I recommend you view the video in the link Engineer Joe posted above.

No.

Found the video.  Yup, that's an abrupt stop!  My engines don't stop that abruptly when I hit the direction button, but they do when the tether plug or a rod becomes loose.  The latter problem can be solved by putting Loc Tite on the offending rod bolt.

Is the solution just not hitting the direction button until the engine stops via backing off the throttle?  It seems quite a few of you don't think it's that simple, so I'll just count myself fortunate that I don't have that problem.
