I need some help.  I have a circus cage for my Flyer Circus Train that needs to have a cage side replaced.  I bought a broken cage with good sides at York and I am looking for a solvent that will let me separate the the pieces. I had heard fingernail polish remover would do it, but it doesn't.

Any ideas??  Thanks

Bill,

Any solvent that will dissolve the bond joining the pieces of the cages will also soften the styrene.  Finger nail polish remover will SEVERLY affect the plastic and should be avoided.  Try OG's method of disassembly.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  It all depends on how much glue was used when those cages were assembled.

Bill,

I can't vouch for these tips since I never tried them myself.  But FWIW, I read somewhere that if you put a plastic model in the freezer for awhile it helps to weaken the glue bond somewhat making it easier to pull apart.  I've also read that soaking it in hot water before you try to pry it apart also helps.
