Good article.  There are many ways to make trees and a lot of them work.  Some are more work in some steps than others.  I'd read Sethian's article and follow what he does there - its a pretty good way to make trees.

As I wrote in my article, I used Prostick 75, a Web Spray adhesive available from Scenic Express to apply super sage to the tree armatures. But I would guess it would work equally well to apply the super turf directly to the tree limbs:

There are many many ways to glue sage/leaves/turf to tree armatures.  I tried lots of adhesives before I found the Prostick worked best for me.  Among the problems I encountered with other adhesives I tried.

Hot Glue:  Cumbersome to apply, limited tack time, stringy, plus opportunity for burns

Hobby Tack:  Cumbersome to apply, tough to get uniform, you have to wait for it to set up, expensive.

Hair Spray:  Doesn't stick all that well.  (but I do use it for applying

3M77. Sticks to everything and anything, including my arms, the newspaper and my gloves.  Comes out too fast, and a bit tough to control.  Also I don't like the smell

ZAP-A-GAP plus accelerator. Tends to run before you get everything set, high probability of sticking your fingers/gloves to the branches.  Time consuming.  Tough to get to inner branches.  But I do use this for patch work
