I'll be doing some stuff at Kennedy Space Center soon and will be staying in Titusville for a few days. Are there any decent hobby shops in the area? I won't be able to go very far, so mentions of shops outside the immediate Titusville area will be of no use to me at all.

I'm not really into three-rail but always like seeing a good hobby shop.

There is one shop in Titusville I’m aware of on the east side of the north bound  US 1 Google says it called Prop’a  Place. If it’s still there? I stopped in about 4 years ago and wasn’t too impressed. I think they had more along the lines of rc models than trains but I can’t really remember as it wasn’t all that memorable of a place. Spare Time Hobbies in Cocoa isn’t a bad place for RC Planes and cars. But you’d have to travel about 15 miles and as I remember the hours are kind of hit and miss. If you’re interested in HO and N gauge TRF Trains in Melbourne might be worth a stop. There really aren’t any elaborate shops around Titusville directly though.

I live in Rockledge and have to travel 65 miles to Port Orange for a O Gauge trainshop; The Roundhouse South. That’s probably 45 miles from Titusville. Tony has a club night the first Wednesday of each month.

Thanks for the heads-up. I figured there probably weren't any in the immediate area and I fully expected to hear of places well away from that area, in spite of what I'd orignally posted...

It's really a moot point for the most part, as it's pretty unlikely I'd have much time anyway.

That’s not a retail business.  A fellow collector in Cape Canaveral tried to visit TrainCity on a few occasions and finally on his third attempt early last year was able to talk to someone (the owner’s wife) who told him that they do not sell outright as it’s just an office and warehouse.  The owner is a well-known buyer of train collections who advertises in the TCA NHq News and other hobby publications who moved there from Erie, PA a few years ago.   He is also the operator of Choo-Choo Auctions and my friend said that there were a lot of shelves holding trains ready for auction.

There is or was a huge 3-rail O gauge layout in Titusville in a Quonset Hut type of building.  I went to his open house about 4 or 5 years ago.  The trains were mostly brand-new MTH and it used MTH RealTrax.  The layout was about 30’ x 40’ feet and occupied half of the building.  The other half of the building included lots of World War II memorabilia including a 1:1 scale US Army Jeep and memorabilia and toys from his and his wife’s lives.  The owner’s name was Ray Smyth and he called it the “Smythsonian”.

I heard that he passed away about 2 years ago and I don’t know if it is still there.  Tony at Roundhouse South in Port Orange (Daytona) may know.

I've never been there but it looks neat.

Flash,

If the website is still active then that's encouraging that the layout may still be there.  When I was there there were several employees who were operating the trains and serving as security so maybe his widow has kept it intact.

I stand corrected on the track as it is definitely Atlas and not MTH RealTrax as I had posted.
