The Misty Mountain Railroad in Blairsville, GA has Re-Opened!

The Misty Mountain Model Railroad was closed for a few months after the death of the owner, Charles Griffin. Charles passed away back in February. Now, his daughter-in-law Pia and her family have reopened the railroad and they invite you to come and visit!

You can tour The Misty Mountain Railroad Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 1:30. There is a second tour on Saturdays at 4 pm. The Sunday tour starts at 2:30 pm. Group tours are available. Admission is $2 for kids 6 to 16 and $5 for adults. Children under 6 get in free.

Here are some pictures of the Misty Mountain Railroad for your enjoyment. With floor-to-ceiling scenery and some stunning scratchbuilt structures, it is one of the most amazing O gauge layouts I have ever seen.

Rich - When OGR did the two-part magazine articles on this railroad I was blown away by the scenery.  The bridges were stunning as was all the scenery.  I think I practically wore out the issues by looking at them so often.  It reminded me of the way that I used to look at my few favorite model railroad books and catalogs as a boy.

Thanks for letting us know that it has survived and will be open to the public.

I'm sad to hear that Mr. Griffin passed away. He was training his grandson to take the reigns one day last time I was there and it appears to have been an effective plan. It is an amazing layout, and the scenery leading to the place is beautiful as well. If I recall correctly he can run 16 trains at one time. He also has an impressive collection of locomotives and cars; I think I counted over 150 different sets downstairs. He models north Georgia and ironically, Blairsville does not have a railroad running through it. Glad to hear his legacy continues. BTW, he donated the proceeds to charity and said that he had tens of thousands of visitors annually, sometimes by the busloads.
