for those of you who own starter sets like the polar express or hogwarts and really enjoy them but wish you had better speed control. Right now there is a great affordable solution.  The cruise commander lite from electric railroad.

I installed one into my hogwarts to run on my legacy layout, but for a test I put it under the Christmas tree powdered by only a Liownel CW80 and the slow speed performance was great!

these cruise commander lites are meant for smaller loads and ready too run sets are a great candidate.  I know the question comes up often if the cruise commanders offer enhanced speed control without legacy or tmcc and my test showed me that they do. Also the cc lite is on sale till the end of year. I got mine for around $40 (thanks boxcar bill).  Really affordable way to try an upgrade and gain performance. Just thought I would share for any conventional runners who might overlook these.

Hapy holidays!!

That is great news as many folks like a somewhat realistic train. Despite the fact it rest under the Christmas tree. Pull outs are very cool when the bell rings, the horn blows and the engineer gives the word. Then the locomotive pulls out ever so slowly as they should. After all, she is under a tremendous load and in reality, the locomotive would almost look as if it was not moving at all, it is that slow.

So, it is nice that a company manufactures something that allows the locomotive, even from a starter set to run more slowly and therefore, more realistically.

Running slow, smoothly, in conventional, is important to me.  Most modern RTR locos aren't really bad at it - they do it better than ost-war locos did, but they are not as good as Legacy and PS2-3 locos or those refitted with Cruise Commander, etc.  To me it is always worth the money to spend a bit more for a loco that runs well at low speeds.

BTW - the WBB Baldwin ten-wheeler, due to its gearing, runs very smoothly at very low speeds right out of the box.

If it has a DC motor and space to install the ERR CC-Lite board, it'll run the train.  Obviously, for sound, you'd have to also use the ERR RailSounds Commander with it.

Right now the ERR CC-Lite is at introductory pricing of $50, and less through some forum sponsors.  Considering you pay $40 or so to Lionel for an R2LC, which is part of the package, it's like they're giving you the CC-Lite for free!

Last time I checked, this was the pricing through the end of the year, don't know if it'll be extended, but it clearly can't last forever.
