That's a great idea! I have some older Proto-2 GP30's that I wanted to set up with fixed pilots and scale wheels. It's actually cost-effective to get some more scale-wheeled GP35's and go with your approach. I'm going to check it out since I have some GP35's already.

Maybe there is room in  the future for MTH or Atlas produce and have a few runs of these GP series. I personally like the low hoods for UP and ATSF as they ran many through Cajon pass. I'd see many many hooked together, at least 6. Not like today with 2 engines in front and one drag. Imagine havine to buy 6 units for a train vs 3.
