Greenbergs Edison, NJ This Weekend

 Judging from the interest it looks like I was one of the few on the forum to attend this show so I will give my report.

The show was crowded and it seemed as though the theme was overruns, closeouts and bargains. There were quite a number of collectors, and dealers there who were retiring and liquidating inventory at low prices and even the large dealers like Gyyzboski's were offering bargains. The most close fisted hobbyist would enjoy this show. Three modular layouts were set up in the back.

It was a good show but mainly for the operator who runs 70-90's era equipment. The new Lionel offerings could be found but not in large numbers. More toy dealers  were evident but the biggest disappointment for me is that Scenic Express skipped the one NJ show that they had been selling at for years and years. There were other dealers there selling scenery though. Ended up buying ten 40's-50's 1/43 die cast cars, a K-Line Lackawanna caboose and some minor scenic odds and ends.

My impression is that this show has become a train flea market for the bargain hunter looking for older stuff. Greenberg's is way different than York and quite a contrast from Allentown but I believe that it serves its market niche well.

I saw multiple Lionel Sir Walter Raleigh 'tobacco series' car's at different tables. A case of them must have been discovered somewhere

The Public Delivery Track seems to be skipping this show.

I spent my money at the show with my favorite book dealer. As long as he attends, I know I'll be buying something.

I specifically called Scenic Express this week to see if they were attending, so I could pick up a special order.

Turns out they will be at the WGH show in Edison at the end of March.

 

I was debating on going and ended up not going. Sounds like it was a good time. Did anyone take pictures?

Well, this time I did go, and found a little something for my estate-sale F3's:

 

Found a 'B' unit for the 2343 F-units. 

 

Those monster boxcars aren't intended to run with the F's, they just wanted to be in the shot

Was there on Saturday. I didn't see anything that really jumped out. I was tempted by a K-Line diecast CNJ hopper at one table, and Grzyboski's had a few items that peaked my interest, but I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. 

 

This show was pretty lackluster IMO. Seems like the toy dealers are taking over.

The iffy weather kept me away.  Also. the post-holiday train shows are

always less attended, so that's to be expected. 

Scenic Express was going to be the only reason for attending for me.  Decided on Sunday to do something else.  Based on the report it seems I made the right choice.  

I passed on the show because I had my eye on some auctions that coincidentally were ending Sat. morning/afternoon.  I ended up picking up a couple of real nice items, things that it would've been almost impossible to find at Edison.  Just bad timing this time around.

AltHough I did not attend the last Allentown or Edison shows due to a health issue I just wanted to say that I did better at the last two Edison shows than the last two Allentow shows that I attended.

 

would I rate Edison better than Allentown........heck no!

 

But that is the way shows are. I have walked around York until I thought my feet were going to fall off never buying a thing.......at other Yorks blew my bank roll. Each show is a unique event....some are good.....some not so. However if you are not there you don't find anything.
