I am wondering if anyone has found a good hand held vacuum that you use to pickup excess grass and foliage when applying grass, foliage and such.  The type where you can easily pickup and retrieve for reuse the excess materials and also any small debris that falls into the scenery.

I've been searching around but apparently not finding the right sites because anything I find gets poor to terrible ratings.

Thanks,

Ed

Ed,

We got a Dyson hand vac as a gift for buying a new mattress.  I was ambivalent about it at the time as my experience with most battery operated hand helds has been less than satisfying.  But with the Dyson you can, and I have, collected stray materials for re-use.  As long as you keep the cannister clean, the materials are as good as new after collecting.  The vac has very good suction, the only draw back is the battery life is a bit short and charging time seems a bit long.

I use a Dirt Devil brand Detailer.  It is very small, about 8 inches long and 1 1/2 to 2 inches round with a small nozzle  and at 3.5 volts has just the right amount of power to vacuum up small amounts.  I have had mine for about four years and it still hold charge and works well for me.  I have never seen one in a store but they are available on line for about $30.

I have tried larger hand held units but the exhaust from the larger units blows the other items too much.

Happy railroading,

Don

Don,

I know this is an old post, however do you have a model number for your vacuum?
