Greetings All,

Well, I picked up this really nice K-Line 16" Extruded Aluminum Pennsy Business Car.  The price was right and it's super clean.  However, a few of the passengers tried to escape, (I found them in the box) and I would like to return them to their rightful place inside the car.  Further, it has the K-Line "Stream Lighting", which isn't half bad but I really would like to up-grade to LED Lighting.  Well, after all that, here's the question.  How do I get the darn thing apart?  I figured out how to remove the ends but I'm baffled beyond that.  Could one of youse guys help a brother out?  Any and All help will be graciously received.  I've provided a picture to make it a little easier to identify with (not the best picture cause I was in a hurry).

You need to remove the trucks and plastic underbody fake job, then the floor and interior just slide out.  However, one end has a quick disconnect that connects the floor to the light strip.  Slide carefully, and remember which way it goes back in.  You might be able to just loosen the truck plate, and leave the wire hooked up - one tiny screw will allow that.

Thank You for that information.  Would you happen to know if this is a "Stand Alone" car or was it part of a set?  If it is part of a set, which one?  I really like this car and would like to find more to match it.  Any input will be appreciated.

It's a stand alone car made to commemorate the turn of the century (2000). It came with a display track.

And you don't need to remove the trucks or the under body details or any of the screw that hold the floor to the frame. With the end caps off and the lighting unplugged the frame will slide out. It takes time and patience but it will happen. Make sure the trucks remain straight so the brake cylinders don't get caught on the skirts. There are two notches in the frame that will hang up in the channel but with a little wiggling you can get them past it. I've done more than a dozen so far and have not removed the trucks.

As for the lighting, there are LED kits out there.

While on this subject, I have been seeking new couplers for a K Line CZ 18" baggage car.  I had a derailment, causing the CZ consist to hang up on the rail ties.  My MTH DL-10 engines had enough pull to break both knuckles on the couplers, both ends, of the baggage car.  I have searched different on line parts dealers, but with no luck so far.  Would like to locate a good supplier for K Line pass car trucks and couplers assemblies.

I think you have to swing the trucks out of the way and look for the mounting screws underneath the car. The two ends may need to come off first to get the floor out.

I had some smaller K-Line passenger cars with Stream Lighting and a 15 inch set of aluminum passenger cars and so far no lights have burnt out on me. However to solder or un-solder a light may take some skill as they are in series if I remember correctly.

All,

Brasseur Electric Trains sells K-Line parts.  Over the past several years, I have purchased several K-Line items through Brasseur.  Also, I have purchased Lionel parts through Brasseur as well.  I have been very with Brasseur's service.

Here's the link to the web site and the direct link to parts landing page:

Also, thank you bob2 for the disassembly instructions.  I have the same problem: flying passengers. I want them reseated so my railroad isn't liable for any tort liability.  LOL
