i placed all my ballast.  following the advise i was given, i bought 2 spray bottles.  1 for 70% isopropal alcohol

and 1 for a 50-50 mix of elmers glue and warm water.

i spray the alcohol; no problem.  but i can't get the glue mixture to spray no matter how much i play with the nozzle.

it comes out in a stream, really doing more harm than good.

what am i doing wrong?  any other ways to apply the glue mix?  can i use denatured alcohol to clean the track when i finally get done?

please help a newbie!

I used to use an eye dropper for ballast, but it made a tedious job even more so.  I currently use the squeeze bottle method like Walt.  I got a bottle of premixed scenery cement from Micromark and when the premix ran out, I refilled it with a 50/50 mix of water and Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement with a few drops of dishwashing detergent.

I do use a spray bottle for affixing ground cover.  Adjust the spray to a mist using just water, then use it for the scenic cement/water/detergent mix.  It will eventually clog so you need to unclog it with water.

My friend Dick Boberg gave me a great idea. I now use a cheap baby bottle and nipple. It holds a lot of glue/water mixture. The drop comes out in a very controlled fashion with minimal mess and clean up needed. I enlarged the opening on the nipple of the first bottle I used and that was a mistake. Use the nipple unaltered for the best result. Keep a toothpick in the nipple hole when not in use to keep the opening from glueing shut. If it gets clogged during use, then I put the toothpick in, move it back and forth, then procede. It really seems to work better than the other methods I tried such as a spray bottle or dropper.
