Hi!

I purchased a TMCC UP Big Boy Auxiliary Tender (6-28087) at a train show on Sunday. I am trying to program it in a lash-up with my dad's Lionel Big Boy and Legacy remote system. I have it programed with its own engine number and both features, reverse light and rear coupler, work appropriately. When I attempt to lash it with the Big Boy and program it with a train ID, the following two situations occur.

1) I can only control the rear coupler on the auxiliary tender by pressing the train link button first. I still can throw the regular tender coupler with the BB engine ID number but the train ID number does not seem to offer any control over the auxiliary tender rear coupler without pressing train link button first. Is this the way it is supposed to be or should I be able to throw the rear coupler on the auxiliary tender by just pressing the R button after ID'ing the train?

2) I have no reverse lighting on the auxiliary tender. The reverse light on the BB tender lights up in reverse, but the light on the auxiliary tender does not light, even after pressing the train link button. Again, should it light up in lash-up mode?

I programmed it the same way I have programmed many engines before. However, this is my first auxiliary tender and I do not know if there is a special procedure to program it in a lash-up? Or are my expectations of how it should operate off-base?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Nicholas

When you created the train, did you add the BB first, then add the tender?  If the tender somehow became the lead locomotive, it could cause this.  Also I just thought of something.  When you have the tender selected via the ENG key, what is it set up as when you push the Info button?  It should be TMCC, RailSounds or RailSounds 5, and Steam.

sinclair,

yes I programed the lash-up with the big boy first and the aux. tender as a steam engine in reverse. I also set it to railsounds and TMCC mode.

Let me run something by you.  I run the Legacy UP 844 with an AUX tender.  I have the tender programmed with the same number as the engine.  I program them together.  Inside the tender, I moved the rear coupler wires to the front coupler pins.  When I desire to uncouple the engine from the AUX tender, I hit the rear coupler.  When I want to keep the AUX tender with the engine, to uncouple the AUX tender from a train, I hit front coupler and due to the wiring modification, the rear coupler fires.  Just a thought for you if you program the engine and AUX tender together as one unit you may have some luck.
