Hello all,

I'd like to start expanding my collection beyond what's familiar to me and I thought a good direction to try would be something familiar to my wife.  She grew up in the Pacific Northwest (Idaho) and Alaska.  Union Pacific and Alaska are obvious choices.  What other roads were visible in the 80's and 90's in that area?

Thanks!

Brian:

GN and NP as Colorado pointed our, are the first two that I think of. There is a nice selection of models available for purchase.

The next one that might be of interest, that is also easy to find is the Milwaukee Road. While the name is certainly not Pacific NW, the actual rail road does fit your needs in this case.

Of course there are a few others but finding models might be more of a challenge.

Dunno when the Great Northern and Northern Pacific sank into the morass that became the Burlington Northern, and there were other roads in the northwest.  The GN and NP were once the roads thought of in the northwest.

The merger that created the Burlington Northern Railway occurred in 1970. In the 80s and 90s, most of its  locomotives wore the familiar green, black ( and some white) livery (until the creation of the BNSF Railway in the mid-90s) , although a lot of the freight rollingstock of the predecessor roads was still in its original liveries (Great Northern, Northern Pacific and Spokane, Portland and Seattle).

Montana Rail Link utilized some former Northern  Pacific Lines.

The Union Pacific also had some lines that ran into the Pacific Northwest, I believe.

The Milwaukee Road went into dissolution about 1980, and a good amount of its Lines West were abandoned.

In any event, if you're primarily interested in the 80s and 90s, you have a good amount of railways and liveries to choose from.
