I run my Lionel trains with two different Lionel 80 watt transformers. Recently I was given a new Williams Amtrak locomotive with horn. It runs fine with these transformers. But pushing the whistle button on either of the transformers, there is no sound of the horn. None at all. I am surprised the engine runs so smoothly, but no sound comes from the engines song either of these transformers. What gives? Any suggestions or comments? Thank you.

Have you tried reversing the wires to the track? Williams engines with horn are polarity sensitive, hot to center rail.
Have you checked to see if the horn is actually there as well?

Thanks, Lee. I have done the wire reversals, but no luck. This is a #208 Williams Amtrak loco and the box says on both the top and the side panel " with horn", but who know for sure. Runs very well, but the lack of sound from the horn is a mystery.
why don't you take the cover off and look for yourself if there is a horn inside then you will know for sure, why waste a lot of time trouble shooting to maybe find out there is no horn or a simple broken wire to the horn is a problem??

Are these old transformers?
My thanks to Alan and Marty. Actually, I sent this loco to Bachmann who claimed to have repaired it. But it still does not work with either of my two 4 year old 80 watt Lionel transformers. Those transformers both work well and can pull two trains on the same track. The horn sounds with other engines, but not this Williams.
I am going to conclude that regardless of the fact the outer box for this Williams locomotive says it has a horn, logic concludes it either does not have one or it can not or was not prepared.
So I will run this beautiful engine " as is", and that ends the subject as far as I am concerned. Again,My thanks to all.
