How about a 44 ton switcher in Amtrak

As long as it is not the three pieces of paper in the wind livery.

That isn't a 44 ton switcher. That is an 80 ton switcher. Much larger loco!

I could go for one in older paint scheme phase 2

Heavier, yes, much larger, not so much. Most of the weight difference is due to ballasting in frame area, and the 80 tonner's frame is thicker than the 44's. Other than that, they can be hard to tell apart (as long as you don't try to lift them!).

Where is the real life version being used?

Last I was aware of, Beech Grove, Indiana shops,  & Wilmington,  Delaware. Likely other locations.  There are (were) 7 of these, 4 were 80 ton,  2 were 65 ton, 1 45 ton.

Wonder if any of Amtrak's 80 tonners were ever painted USAF blue like one l saw daily for some years?

As was mentioned on the other thread (and as I myself just discovered) Nicholas Smith Trains in the Philly area has them on order. They are not on the website yet as far as I can tell.

Per MTH's website, the 44 tonners were supposed to be delivered this month. However, the locomotive is still listed under the preorder pages of both MTH's website and Nicholas Smith. Since the shop is closed today, I do not know anything beyond that. My best guess is that the locomotives are in transit and will be delivered before the month is out.
