So I was thinking about all the clubs here in the MA area and how they are either close to the city or are near the north/south shores of MA and is a +45min/50mile drive.    I know of BMHRC, NSMRC and SSMRC.

But there isn't really a lot for us folks out west in terms of Train Clubs.   Then I was thinking, how does one actually "start" a club?

Is there enough interest for the folks in the Western, MA Area to warrant the formation of a new club?

Can anyone offer some in-sight who have formed clubs from the start?

Hi Matthew,

I'm not sure exactly where you live in the Pioneer Valley.

The Amherst Railroad Society meets in Amherst on the third Tuesday of most months (not December). As you might know the ARS runs the Springfield BigE Show each January. They sponsor 2 HO Modular Groups, Amherst Belt Lines and Dry Hill. There are quite a few 3-railers who are members. While some of us have thought about creating a 3-Rail modular group, it has not come to fruition, although with someone who wishes to champion the cause, I think that you'd find bodies.

The Society is in the process of obtaining its own building which might spur on interest.

Contact me by email if you'd like more info.
