Had to replace a PS-2 5V board in a Bipolar and did not think it would fit at first. Definitely would not work with normal method. The bracket would raise it too high, and the mount holes at the end of the bracket made it too long. After studying for a while I decided to go with the Steam PS-2 3V bracket and mount the board upside down.
I had to trim the heat sink so that the edge would not make contact with the flat inductors on the board, cut off the end mounts of the plastic bracket. I wound up with a profile height under 1.5 in which was necessary to fit under the shell.
Shell wound up fitting on easily. Pictures attached.
