So, RickO, despite the "Pennsy-sounding" whistle...you have found the whistle ok? I think I remember you posting it's able to be tolerated although this whistle sound is very similar to previous K4 and Turbine releases.

i apologize if I'm making you reiterate your observation, but would you mind posting your opinion again here?

Yes, I would have preferred a more unique whistle, it is the same whistle as the K4 but a noticeably higher pitch. I do feel the K4 whistle is one of Lionels best efforts as far as a realistic quilling tone(s) goes.

Another member mentioned that the NYC heavy Mikes were P&LE locos so they "may" have had Pennsy sounding whistles, no one really knows.

Having said that, the overall sound package is great, good sounding chuff( which sounds similar to the "NKP 765 in the Valley" video) and the "fidelity" of the sound seems better than other locos I have. "Crisp" is the only way I can describe it.

I think the loco looks great as well with a "fair" amount of detail and smooth/slow speed operation is outstanding. The overall fit and finish seems better, reminds me of my korean built stuff. Maybe its just me.

Its just a really "nice" small/ medium sized loco.

Yes, I wasn't totally sold by the video, but after seeing and running it in person its one of my favorites, uncertain whistle tone accuracy aside.

It also sounds very similar to the whistles on the light mikados Lionel put out a few years ago. When I didn't preorder the heavy mikado, I bought a light one from my LHS. They have slightly different pitches.
