I was asked to clean some model trains for a friends father. So I did. Here are some before and after pictures of my handy work. They were covered in real hard to get off grease. As in kitchen grease where they were displayed for years. Dust filtered into the whole affair and boy what a mess. Anyway, it took me several days of hard work to get them cleaned up and shiny once again. I now have the matching passenger car of this really spectacular set. Available in most scales, the NAPA Valley Wine Train is one beautiful train. The set contains the AA Alco locomotives and several passenger cars as well as a diner/café car. I had to work many hours doing this, but the owners father seems very pleased with the results thus far.

Anyway, I thought I would share my handy work with the members here. Thanks

P.S. The box car is not part of the train set, but I was asked to clean it as well. I have the diner/café car now, but no pictures yet.

I used those kitchen grease wipes very carefully first. Then I used some Armor All wipes to really get them clean. Then I used (of all things), Hot Rod Detailer that I bought at PEP Boys. Smells nice and leaves the plastic protected from UV and other assorted hazards. Of course, these are outdoor trains. Thus they can take a tad more punishment then our O gauge stuff.

The whole process was fun, but labor intensive as far as getting the details down.

Thanks for all the compliments.

Enjoy!

Thank you sir. Yes cleaning these types of items can be tricky to say the least. I am almost done cleaning the NAPA Valley Diner Car that goes with that AA set. It took me several days, but I took my time. I'll post pictures when I am done. Probably later this evening.

The locomotives really did come out nice and the pictures I took do not do the job I did justice. I mean this was a nasty dirty grease that had also taken on dust and soot from being in a kitchen setting for many years.

They run beautifully and I enjoyed the job.
