And connected to the outside ring of the plug into the Base 1. If you buy an aftermarket one, you will have to provide for that. 

What is wrong with the stock one? Have you disassembled it to see what is wrong? The one for the Base 2 has a fuse inside that blew out because the Base 2 had an issue. I had to have the Base 2 fixed and then I replaced the fuse in the transformer.
