Earlier this year I sold a bunch of engines and rolling stock because of an IRS tax bill. However I try to store a couple of York purchases and I can't find anyplace to put them. Is there a back hole gobbling up train storage space? Maybe I am losing my creative storage creativity?

Without going into too much detail, it would seem that you have discovered a heretofore unknown continuum that exists in parallel to the Dark Sucker Theory. This will ultimately be explained by the derivation of Space Sucker Theory.  If the two continuum ever co-exist, you get all of your stuff back (which may, or may not be a good thing).

Boss, please don't be alarmed. This happens.

Usually when we create space, the ceo gobbles it up with plants and poofy stuff that we think has been there all along.

You need to put sealed empty boxes there whenever you create the space. As soon as backorders show up, you can just put it in the box.

When she asks remember, "that box has been there a long time!!"

This happens to me also.  Let me know if you find a solution.  Perhaps someone will invent a miniaturization ray.

Scott and the rest of the Guys,

I have a different problem entirely, remember I was 25 years married before my wife discovered she was married to a grown up kid. My passion was suddenly reignited by a sickness in 2004 and a slow recovery from depression. I now have to negotiate back into my life a part of my childhood that has never died.

As for most of you who have tons and tons of space, I truly envy you. I have one side of a basement and a half a closet!

I know this blog will inspire comments like "this guy Mike should grow a pair" but it's difficult to accommodate and make room in my basement after more than half of the marriage was without trains, save for 1993 when Santa brought my  3 year old daughter the K-Line Christmas set that went around the tree and went over like a lead balloon. and was not repeated but went into storage.

I now own a ping pong table with a set of trains on a layout that is called "Boardertown".

Finish it off, insulate it, and add an HVAC system to regulate the temperature.  Problem solved.  Don't buy trains for a year to pay for the remodel.

Don't buy trains for a year to pay for the remodel.    Right, like that would happen. Now back to reality.

Did the same thing.  Sold some trains to make room only to pick up a bunch of the new lionel auto rack cars. So much for making space.  I store some of my stuff in my attic which is not yet finished but I have 2 attic fans set at 70 degrees which does keep the heat pretty much under control.  It can't be any hotter than sitting in a conex box crossing an ocean.

Looking forward to heading "back up to the attic".... I have portable AC for now. My wife wants me to add a Mini-split next year. Yeah!!!

love the table work, like the room. I also notice how uncluttered the room is. So where are you hiding the rest of your trains?

Scott, I didn't know how much more space you needed.

I remodeled the inside of my  doghouse. It now holds much more. I can send you plans. Big attic above too.

I should have put in HVAC first! I'll be out there tonight.

Just trains went the extra mile and contacted me about a partial pre-order coming in. They wanted to know how I'd prefer it shipped. She's a little upset...............

This house was designed with the utility room (washer and dryer, etc.) upstairs....

only furnace eats real estate in the basement)  That was planned in case of advancing

age, wheelchair?, etc.  (and the stairs to the basement were designed unusually wide,

in case one of those rail chairs were ever needed, or, as I once had the experience of

helping heft a refrigerator up a stairway of two turns in an old farmhouse, so there

was room to move stuff up and down)
