Seeing that this line of products has done well for Lionel so far. What are some other locomotive types from steam, diesel, or electric that you would like to see covered in the Lionchief Plus line? This year saw the release of A5 0-4-0 Steam switcher which I'm likely going to get, but I would like to see maybe an 0-6-0, 0-8-0, or even a Shay type steam engine make it to the Lionchief line products.

Well for lionchief engines, I would recommend regular common engines like 2-8-2 Mikados. Thinking about a Lionchief Big Boy  would be ridiculous! I would love to see:

  • 2-8-0 Consolidations 
  • 2-6-0 Moguls (I think that's what they are called)
  • I agree about Shays
  • 0-6-0 Docksiders

I do own 3 Lionchief Plus locomotives. I have a NYC Mikado, a NYC RS3, and BN NW-2 Switcher. I really like the Mikado, also the Berkshire is another locomotive that would be nice for Lionchief Plus.

I agree about a Berkshire too! That would be amazing.

From a cost of production standpoint (which is Lionel's most important consideration of late), the best next candidate would be a Budd RDC. Lionel only needs to burn a new sound chip. The trucks are interchangeable with the GP-7's, and all the other tooling already exists. Besides, it's about the only locomotive that hasn't yet been desecrated with conversion to a can motor. On the other hand, the thought of building something with 3 light bulbs probably makes Lionel's upper management break out in a sweat. They can't seem to muster the courage to add a single bulb to their aquarium cars these days.

Good idea! 

What I would like to see may be a little off the wall but it would be engines with more detail, similar to the MTH Rail King Imperial line or the old discontinued Lion Master line. Both featured scale-like detail without the scale size, (or scale price) making them suitable for smaller layouts or layouts like mine that have a couple of 0-31 curves. I think LC+ could fit into this niche very nicely.

It's somewhat difficult to tell which throttle setting you are on for an individual remote, so while this would work in theory, I suspect it would be difficult to keep in sync in practice.  Sitting there with two remotes and trying to run them in unison sounds like an exercise in futility!

Would they need to add anything other than what's already there on new BT locos? I believe all that's needed is more programing and maybe another button on remote/app for a lash up mode.

In terms of features they are creeping up on legacy. The new BT app can now adjust momentem settings and individual volume control on horn, bell, etc.

I just preordered a BT LC+ L&N GP7. Great value!
