Looking to put traction tires on postwar F3 horizontal motor truck. I purchased NOS traction wheels w/tires from Lionel from a newer F3. The wheel ID was a wee bit small so it took an immense amount of force to press onto the postwar axle - so much so the axle bent a bit. It all went back together and runs fine but I have to imagine there's an easier way. I've retrofitted postwar GG-1s in the same manner (w/NOS Lionel parts) and the wheels pressed on as expected. Thoughts? A different source or part number for wheels w/traction tires? I guess I could open up the wheel ID but that's a rather imprecise operation (at least for me).

why don't you contact MTH and give them the item number of your engine and then tell you the correct traction tire form your item number of the engine,or if the mth web sight is working you can look up the item train number on MTH's web sight and get a part number then you can order by calling there service department. they will help you and can even tell you what is the nearest train repair shop near were you live and could even put them on for you. I know they have been very helpful to me!

I sent the truck assemblies to Frank Timko at Timko repair depot and he machined traction tire grooves into the wheels I specified. They work great.

Great, thanks. I've heard of his services before but didn't know he did this. I'll drop him a line.
If there is enough interest we could produce new wheels with traction tires for diesels.

I am looking for someone to do a similar job for me.....I have the MPC era New York Central 20th Century Ltd set with the add-on diner and sleeper. On tinplate track it runs OK.....But on Atlas track it struggles with all 7 cars.
I bought 4 F3 wheels which traction tire grooves, but the diameter of the axle is larger in the magna-traction truck...The new wheels need to be machined.
Roy....is Timko the place to go?
If anyone on the Forum does this kind of work.....please pipe in. Ican bring the engine and the parts up to York, or mail them....
Peter
Funny how things go around. In the 1970's there were several outfits that converted MPC trucks from tire traction to magnetraction.
