Hey Guys,

I just wanted to introduce myself.  I'm fairly new to O-Gauge but not new to the hobby.  I used to have G scale trains setup in my old basement but we moved so I had to take them down.  When I moved into my new home, I got the itch to set up trains again but my new basement wasn't nearly as big so I knew I couldn't set up my G Scale trains.  Luckily, years ago, I got my father's old post war Lionel trains.  It's a 2-6-2 steam engine with a box car, tank car, log unloading car and a caboose that lights up.  When I got the set, I had it checked over to make sure it was in running condition and it runs great.  It still smokes and the whistle still works.

So I took a couple of my old train tables that I kept from my old G Scale layout and made a couple of new ones.  I basically made a 8 ft by 16 ft layout with a hole to walk around in.  I have a double Lionel FastTrack oval with 0-48 and 0-72 curves.  I don't have any scenery but a Woodland Scenics station depot that they started coming out with a couple of years ago.  I love the detail of this building!   The layout doesn't have any sidings.  I consider this layout to be temporary because I plan on moving these trains to a basement in a building that I own.  There's a lot more space there.  I plan on roughly building a 24 ft by 18 ft layout with a yard off to one side.  I'll probably post progress of my project.

I'm really getting addicted to these trains!  I go on Ebay and buy new and used rolling stock that's a lot of fun to collect.  I've also bought some rolling stock from two local train stores in my area (Northeast Trains and Charles Ro).  The biggest addition to my layout is that I went to Train World and bought Lionel's Legacy Union Pacific #844, the FEF-3.  I also bought the Legacy system.  This is my first Legacy locomotive and I love it!  The detail is great!  I like that these engines have 200 speed steps.  It runs so smooth and love the sounds and smoke that it makes!  I'm a big fan of smoke on these engines and I even love the smell of it.  I also have a Lionchief Plus Santa Fe FT A-A set which is fun too.

I have a YouTube channel if you guys want to see some videos of my trains in action.  I started a blog, a video of my FEF 3, and a video of my fathers post war engine running along side my FEF 3 which is kinda cool, along with my old G scale trains running in my old basement:

So, with only being involved in O Gauge for 5-6 months, I guess I'm off to good start!  I love the variety that comes with O Gauge!  From the engines, the rolling stock and the buildings and scenery!  I'm used to G Gauge where the selection isn't as good and you have to get creative especially when you're running them indoors!   Forums are great places to get info and I'm open to suggestions from you guys!

That's cool!  About 10 years ago, I applied to be a dispatcher at Pan Am.  Their dispatch center is in Billerica MA.  I didn't get the job but it was interesting.  Are you from New England?

Welcome JR, sounds like you are well on your way to a great O-Gauge layout. Of course, you have a lot of know how from your G-Scale years. The basics remain the same no matter what scale we model in, as does the fun and frustrations.

That is why we all come here to this site, so as to share the fun a seek help from the frustrations.
