OK yes I'm new. I've been spending quite some time thinking/researching/learning now about this. Still much more to go, but although I think I'm going at it in the right sequence, I'm hoping that some more experienced can weigh in here and provide any feedback they wish. I've been designing/creating/re-creating an 8'x12' layout using SCARM.  First off, a general question to anyone: in general am I looking at trouble here or is this something I can work with?

My objective is to stay as much O72 as possible so I don't limit myself to future engine/car choices. I believe red and green are good. Purple I think is not, which is ok because I'd keep my smaller engines on that loop. I think I'm good hopping across purple from the train yard area(turntable possibly) as long as I ensure that I hop immediately over to green. The only problem I'm running into is connecting red.

Can someone tell me if there's an easy way to connect here? I think/hope there is, but I just hit a mental block. Any advice would be appreciated and thank you for your time.

Thank you Paul. Yea I think I have some space to play with that's a good idea. For my connection problems, I think I may have figured it out. I think I just need to move green and purple slightly down and to the left so I can meet up with red. Lemme play with that and I'll post an update. Any other comments appreciated.

I see what the problem is. The access to the inside from the red line is less than optimal. It is nice that all of your switches are confined to the area front and center.

The solution is to move the two crossovers between the red and green lines to the ends of the layout. Then you can get across the green line without doing a full lap or backing up.

OK Big Boy you're help has been greatly appreciated. I cleaned it up considerably (attached). I realized a couple of things:

1. Green was not O72 so I corrected that and it gave me much more room for switch motors (plus your good idea in moving them to the red ends).

2. This cut my track piece down about 10 pieces (not critical but interesting).

3. My turntable may have been too big but I'm not sure. I'm figuring on a 28". The turn into the turntable is O54 which could still pose a problem. I need to do more research on this still.

4. I have plenty of room for town, turntable/train yard, and rolling stock yards.

Thanks again for your input. More is welcome but you really got me back on the right path I think.
