Well I took down my dual O/N layout over a year ago. Space occupied seemed too much. Then this past year was busy doing other projects on house such as converting our back porch to a three season room (money,money). I am now inching toward setting back up something to operate my 0 guage trains on. I am going to use the space I had in my storadge area that was a return loop to my former area. This will be a loop about 10'x12' and will need to be along the lines of a shelf layout with only a two foot depth. Would love suggestions as to sites that I could see what others have done with similar space. Thanks. Ralph.

Well, today I laid my final section for a shelf layout. Plywood down and still trying to decide what to top that with. I had homosote on my last layout which I really don't want to use this time....too heavy. May just lay out some 1" foam over plywood. Cork roadbed and gargraves track and see if that is quiet enough for me. If it is I'll do that on whole layout.

If soundboard is available in your area take a look. You'll like it a lot more than foam. It's easy to cut and fairly light.

Thanks. I looked at it. Looked like close to $30/sheet. That's about $100 for what I would need.

Today I laid about 14' of foam board on top of plywood base then laid cork road bed onto he foam. Ran my Mohawk steamer on it and the sound seemed fine. So I will do that. I now have the benchmark completed.I ended up with 16'x9'6" so my inside loop will end up with a 42"R which will have to do. My NYC Mohawk is my largest engine and didn't look too bad on that tight curve although obviously looks better on the outside loop. Thanks for your help/suggestions. Will feel good to run trains after a long layoff.Ralph.

If I was going to have to do what you are doing with the space of a two foot shelf around the room. I would do a single mainline with a couple of passing sidings for two train operation. Maybe at the 12 foot end put in a small yard and a small engine yard. The other areas along the wall I would put in industries to be able to do some switching.........................paul
