It was just announced that Joliet will be opening its new passenger platforms monday September 22nd at 10am. This means that the current Joliet Union Station will board its final passenger trains Monday morning. It's sad that this is happening after over 101 years, but at least the station is not being torn down. In fact they are getting ready to replace the roof. The current station will serve as a banquet hall.

The station opened in 1912 and was once a symbol of the strength of the City of Joliet. I'm posting many of the best pictures I have collected on my Facebook account linked below. It's such an amazing structure, I wish that it would continue to be used for its intended purpose.
