Gentlemen,

As most of you already know I own a nice NASA Train, recently I was able to make a deal on a newer P3 NASA #3 1500 Switcher MTH Part # 30-20071-1.  Now my #1 NASA Engine is mostly Red with White lettering, the new NASA P3 is a mostly Blue Switcher.  Information on this newer MTH P3 NASA Switcher Engine, would be most appreciated.

Mike,

One of my fellow Green Beret Warrant Officers, Sean Thomas did not make it back from a mission in South Africa, fighting terrorism. General Singlaub, US Army Retired, has put together a program to pay off Sean's home, for his wife and 4 children.  Many have seen the video and pictures of his beautiful young wife crying over his flag draped coffin, a very serious intrusion on her most private grief.  If you would please pass the word around to all the Military Veterans here on the OGR, along with all your Marine Contacts, I would consider it a big favor.  I do not often ask anyone else to help my boys, this time however it is personal to me.  Sean's funeral was at Fort Brag on Thursday, I am hoping we have his home payed off by the end of next week.

Semper Fi buddy,

GG1Man,

This will be my 1st P3 Engine, I hope she runs as well as all my P2 engines do.  Was a little surprised at the Mostly Blue & White Coloring of this #3 NASA Switcher, which in real life were mostly Red & White #1 & #2, Engines.  Maybe they were Blue & White later on, but I have no knowledge of it, or maybe MTH decided to make the Blue & White.

The article that the picture appeared in was from 2013 shortly before the NASA Railroad stopped operations.  A quick search of google turned up multiple others of it in the same paint scheme from 2010 as well.  I have no idea where it was housed.  I have seen other pictures of it with sister engines #1 and #2 so I would guess the same location as them.

Bill,

The Trains were run in several different locations, the #1 Switcher engines at the Michoud Plant in East Orleans, La were Red, & White with Blue and black trimming.  I never did get to see a Blue and White NASA #3 Switcher, however this is cool now I own them all, to run on my Christmas layout.  Obama taking the NASA RR off line was a very foolish move for the safety & Security of our nation. The NASA RR in several different locations transported the External Tank, Solid Rocket Boosters and Bird to the launch sights, at the Cape and the Vandenberg installation also.  The NASA Space Shuttle is one of our nations top Military Weapons, standing the NASA RR down endangered our entire countries Star War Security Program.  Further I would like to know which Commander and Chief changed the coloring of the NASA Switcher Engines, from Red & White to Blue & White, it would be interesting to know.  Thanks for the picture, real cool stuff!

That's interesting to know.  I never really researched it myself.  I also do not agree with shutting the railroad down.  The one article I saw said it was in a state of limbo at the time but it appears that will not happen as everything has been sold off or donated to museums according to the link below.

The PDF document at the link below mentions that engine #3 had the same paint scheme as the other two until they started a corrosion repair project that was completed in 2008.  It was painted into the blue scheme at that time.
