Some time ago I accessed the Key website and found that they intended to issue several variations of the NYC Dreyfuss streamlined Hudsons. I cannot find this on their current website. Does anyone know anything about their intentions? The website certainly discourages direct communication, as there is no city, state, or phone number, and no email address, and no "contact us" tab.

You are correct the the sight discourages direct contact. Also the sight discourages contact with dealers as none are listed on the sight either. Somehow one is to magicaly know who they are. The dreyfus was mentioned on the PSC website for O scale and was to be an exclusively by The Caboose in G scale. The Dreyfus is still listed on the PSC newsletter online. Hope this helps. Stephen

PS only 45 units will be produced.

If you Google the term "Key Model Imports" you will find several of their dealers listed. I suspect that since they are the importer, they only like to hear from their network of dealers, so that they can concentrate on making trains.  That's usually the way a big business that only deals with the trade works. It eliminates the constant calls and emails from tire-kickers, droolers and foamers. I am certainly not implying that you are one of those. If you have a valid reason to contact them, a simple search for their domain name on whois.com yields a link to their contact info:

Their registrant is a shill, whose US telephone number is bogus in the registration list. But they say that they accept registered mail. That might be the first step in establishing communications with them.

However, I would "read the signs" and take the hint that they really don't want to hear from anyone other than their dealers.

I seem to recall Roger Lewis has set up a mailing list, get info about what Key is doing and so forth.

Simple get on the mailing list.

I have no problem talking to Dave or Roger.

Btw, David Devita was at the Indianapolis O scale meet and IIRC the displays had his email address.  I didn't take any pictures,  perhaps someone here did.

I'm not currently a Key customer nor do I even know David Devita (other than to see him at his table with a name badge on at Indy) so I have no skin in the game.

I would love to go to the O scale West but unable.

What is interesting is that no one else mention the UP's Big Boy model photos. I am a very picky modeler when it comes to detail and the photos blew me away. I believe the Key model has risen to new heights. The brass builder is amazing! A brass model well worth looking into.

As I stated previously my only observation is if a new comer to O scale were to go to the website there is NO dealer contact information. There is no detail information of versions for them to order. That's all, nothing more. Dave does a great job and I respect him very highly. It's other people's additude that I wonder about.  Stephen

I did not intend to start a "war" with this post. I simply wanted to know...

IF they will be built

When they will be available

The price

If they will be geared to run on 12 VDC at scale speed of approximately 80-90 mph

If the quantity of units is to be only 45, and there is no advertising and no contact info, I am beginning to understand why.....

Just a web "announcement" which is difficult to find is insufficient information, in my opinion. The price is important to me, as I don't write "blank checks" by reserving.

I have to agree with Hudson5432 & nw2124 that the Key Model Imports website is not very appealing to prospective customers without the contact information. I went through a few pages & there were no prices or delivery dates except for some good-looking photos & sketches from Erik. Thankfully they don’t seem to make models of modern trains & I won’t have to deal with them.

I disagree with the practice of just informing a close circle of current customers of project updates. It will be interesting to see how long Key remains in business without adding new customers, when there is no way for new customers to contact them directly. Their current customers are not going to live forever.

I wouldn’t have decided to move from HO to O when I did in 2006 if it weren’t for the prompt response I received from Brian at Overland when I e-mailed / called Overland directly about models they imported in the past, both when I was in HO & when I was looking at O. In some instances that meant directing me a prospective customer, to work with a dealer since like Key, Overland did not sell HO models directly to customers.

Even George from Koh’s was very prompt in his e-mail reply when I inquired about a mini drill press he had listed on his website.

These are just my opinion.

Thanks,

Naveen Rajan
