Can you show us what the tether looks like? There are a number of styles, I've seen different versions on different K-Line locomotives.
Or take a look at the photos in my thread, and see if one style matches your B unit.
I unfortunately don't have a solution for you, but those 10 pin harnesses were a very poor design, EXTREMELY FRAGILE, as you have found.

I will try braseauers hobby. Hopefully they will have one. I have two sets of these and would like to fix and sell one set. Anyone interested? burned out headlight also. $300 shipped.
