I am trying to create a lashup with a 6-82205 BNSF ES44AC and a 6-28364 BNSF dash 9. Both are Legacy engines.

I can create the lashup just fine (with the ES44AC at the front) and uncoupled both engines are responding as they should. However, the dash 9 starts quicker and wants to push the lead engine.

Lionel tech support says that one engine has the R4LC legacy board and the other has the newer RCMC Legacy board.  Thus a lashup between these two engines will not work well.  Anybody had this problem and solved it?

Thanks

I'm sorry to revive this old chestnut but I'm in the same predicament but with two brand new units, GP30 CGW 201 (2133770) and F7B 114B (2033268), using the CAB-1L.  These new locomotives have no means of switching Odyssey on or off.  Operating the units, uncoupled, the F7B starts earlier and at a higher rate of speed than the GP30 but the Geep requires more turns of the throttle to bring it to a stop.  Since setting "stall" is no longer an option under wonderful "Legacy", I have no means of adjustment.

I hate to think that I have to set two brand new, rather expensive locomotives on a shelf for several months in order to allow a solar event or other act of God to correct the problem.

Is there any means of my correcting this condition?

Please explain in more detail “the momentum is the same”  How would you know and how can it be adjusted if they are not? Thanks

On the CAB1L the L M H buttons under the cover.  They set how responsive the engine is to the movement of the throttle.  L will make the engine respond quickly to any throttle change, M a little slower response, and H the engine will slowly get up to speed.

Technically you should be able to do this to the created train as well (Page 24 of the manual).  Are the engines already in the MU when you are checking their speed against each other?  What I do is assign them to the train and then run them apart to confirm they are going similar (not exact) speeds.

From page 11 of the owners manual...

Tuning your locomotive’s performance Command-equipped locomotives

SET L M H SETTING MOMENTUM

The LEGACY system’s momentum feature simulates the labored performance of a real life locomotive pulling a heavy load. Press L, M, or H (located under CAB-lL’s removable panel) for light, medium, or heavy momentum. The locomotive remembers this setting until you change it. For normal (quick) locomotive response, press L. Get a feel for the difference in momentum settings. Select L, M, or H. Turn your throttle slightly and wait a few seconds for the locomotive to respond.

Note that on LEGACY/TMCC2 locomotives, L, M and H settings change the number of individual speed steps your locomotive supports. A setting of L gives 32 speed steps, M yields 100 speed steps and H provides 100 speed steps with added momentum.

Thanks but I had tried all those LMH settings on both and then tried it again without success.  Yes, they respond according to change in "momentum" but, no, the F7B starts and stops well before the Geep and the God forsaken rubber tired wheels leave skid marks on the rails from wheel slip.  Clearly, based on the earlier posts, there is no fix.

I won't be buying any more new Lionel locomotives, any time soon.

The fact that the F7B starts before the GP30 clearly says that cruise isn't working in the GP30!  A legacy locomotive should start to move on the first throttle step if the cruise is enabled.  It almost sounds like Odyssey is disabled, but they've removed the switches on recent models, so I'm not sure how that happens.  Perhaps @Dave Olson can explain what may be happening.
