This question is prompted by a great thread over on the 3 Rail Scale forum by Rich Battista about modifying his DDA35 diesel. You can see it here: https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/t...68#40145252417857468

He's added a cab-top beacon, which I wish Lionel had provided on this model. Some Legacy diesels have this feature and the question that's come up is whether Legacy diesel boards have an output for it even if it's not used on a particular model.

More generally, I wonder if someone has a diagram for the outputs on various Legacy boards? Diagrams abound for various TMCC boards but I can't see any Legacy equivalent on the Lionel website.

(Before anyone says, "Why not ask Lionel this question?" I can't imagine that if they're not posted on the website they'll just hand them over to anybody like me!)

Only some techs who went to school the last time Lionel had a school (over 4 years ago) may have them.  A lot of this is new.  I imagine that if Lionel doesn't have a beacon on the engine, the output is probably not programed to run one.  Each board though the same hardware, has a different part number.  I assume because of software load for that specific engine.  G

The wiring diagrams we supply to the factory are representative only.  The details are implementation specific, and the factory in conjunction with our China tech team work out the wiring on a given model.  If the loco uses the latest electronics I designed, the software I wrote uses the same pins on the RCMC in every loco.  IE, the front light, cab light, etc. will always be on the same connector, and same pin on that connector.

We do not always export the controls for items like a strobe to the pin it normally attaches to on the RCMC.  This is done to support code module compile options in the software to save space.

If someone has a specific I/O question, on a specific product, my email is in my profile.  Folks who email me usually get a reply within a few days.  I can look up what is needed and share with folks.

There are some generic but very representative diagrams that provide pin outs and connector use. Early Legacy and even some of the newer engines.

In fact one or two of the Lionel Part numbers of the new boards actually kicks up a picture with added information on connector use.

First of all, my thanks as well to Jon for responding and making a very generous offer.

Second, I have seen those diagrams on the parts too but only for the VL Big Boy. I would not dream of messing around with something so complicated; it was only a more standard engine like the Legacy DDA35 I had in mind!
