I just recently had to purchase a new computer, (old one was 9 years old and was running Windows XP).  My new one is running Windows 7 Professional. Can I add Legacy System Utility Freeware to my new computer. The reason I ask, is that every time I have tried to download it, I haven't been able to get my computer to accept it. Am I possibly doing something wrong or won't it work with the new operating system?

The computer company I purchased it from transferred most of what I had on my old computer. Is there possibly something blocking me from downloading the freeware from Lionel?

Thank you for any help anyone can give me.

I've installed LSU on a number of Windows 7 computers, it's never been an issue.

I can't imagine this being the firewall, you'd get an exception notice.  I have the Windows firewall running at it's default settings, it's actually been fairly invisible for most operations.

Try having the files in a folder right off the root of the drive, say C:\INSTALL and see if that helps.  Certain versions of the installer choke on long installation paths.

rb2hogger,

Since you have 7-zip let's do this...

1. Right-click on the zipped folder that you downloaded named SetupLSUv10.

2. From the context menu that appears, hover the cursor over 7Zip, then move it over and select "extract to SetupLSUv10\"

3. You will now find an extracted folder named SetupLSUv10 in the same location as the zipped folder.

4. Double-click on the extracted folder

5. You will see the 3 files-double-click on set-up.exe. It should have a computer icon next to the name. That launches the installer.

Any joy?

Thank you for the help guys, but no joy here.

Moonman, I did as you outlined and it started to install but each time the install abruptly aborted. I would get the dark blue Legacy System Utility screen and then it would come to a halt. I am totally perplexed. On Monday I am going to be taking this new computer back to where I purchased it and see if they can help me. Unless, anybody else has a suggestion.

Again thank you.

hogger,

That's where I would go next. I don't want to turn it into a computer thread. There are issues when one migrates a user profile from XP to Windows 7. It depends on how and what they moved from your old machine that could be ganking up the install.

Everything from download, to extract, to install works fine, to the error point. Let them clean it up and make it work.
