These are too cool. Grew up around Detroit. I've seen a quite few old ones when you consider the numbers made. I bet proportionally a lot of Detroiters must have bought these originally. Decent price if that's a RTR with rails.  Power, etc, too? Outstanding.

Makes you wonder why a GG1 doesn't come with a catenary?

Here are a few questions for anyone who owns one:

  1. Can the track be cut?  (I need mine to fit a very specific space.)
  2. Can the stanchions be turned upside down and the track installed that way?  I think it might be cool to hang it from the rafters.

Here's a question for anyone: Are the "lockons" (i.e., the clip that attaches the wires) available for separate sale?

Thanks in advance.

I have one and I suppose the track could be cut and modified. There is a video someone posted that shows the monorail mounted upside down from a ceiling. I have never seen the wiring connector by itself, but you can always solder wires to it. I have one feed with about 30 feet of track and no issues. I have extra track and bases to extend what I have. Can't wait for them to come in.

When I ordered mine a few weeks ago from Just Trains of Delaware (forum sponsor), they told me that MTH announced that shipping was being delayed from December, 2014 until February, 2015.

As a related "BTW", and possibly to support the above, MTH announced a new monorail model painted in Blue Comet colors.  The February, 2015 shipping date listed on the MTH page for the new item would seem to corroborate the above.

I can't wait to get my mitts on mine...

I'll repeat something I've posted before - if you're going to order a monorail, get the contemporary (DCS) version rather than the traditional. The reason is the motor. The motor in the traditional version is a copy of the original 1930's open frame motor. It does not stand up well to being run for long periods of time. We have one in our museum and it has given us constant problems. The contemporary version costs the same and has a can motor and a full PS/3 setup with sound. If you don't want the fancy stuff, take out the electronics and put them in something else or sell them. Put a bridge rectifier in the power unit - you don't need reverse on a monorail anyway. If you sell the electronics you'll be money ahead and have a better running monorail.

Yes, late January early February delivery was the latest information I heard.  We still have several un-reserved sets coming in at our pre-order prices.  Remember, WE DO NOT CHARGE credit cards or even require credit card numbers before they are shipped from MTH to the dealers.

We will also be stocking on-hand the extra rails, stanchions and figure 8 expansion sets too!
