Have never been able to get my newer Lionel remake 197 Radar Tower to operate correctly. Operates only at very high voltage (barely), noisy, radar not smooth, spins shaky and intermittant,and wobbles. Changed the fingered washer and it didn't help. What am I doing wrong? Ideas?

I am sure others will chime in here but I found a bit of graphite sprinkled in may help the situation.
I had a similar problem that graphite did not fix. I made a narrower fitting using a piece of very small brass tubing for the antenna to move. I then added a US nickel as a counterweight on the antenna itself. The whole tower is wired permanently to a CW 80 and starts when power is applied to the layout. It has been running without fail for over 4 years.
