The new catalog goes live this wednesday on their web site as well as ours. Great mix of new items. Had the pleasure yesterday of a visit from most of the "upper management" at Lionel. Howard and I talked about a number of things and without going into details expect some changes. And yes they hear us about the shipping sked! Remember they are just getting use to things and how they worked and now they plan to improve on that. Their Marketing guy, Mike Phillips spent some time with our IT guy and alot was accoplished. I am looking forward to the day when we go live with our new inventory control system and have "real time" data. I am not allowed to discuss what is in the new catalog till Wed. so please don't ask me too. Thanks Charlie....

Charlie you are a gem to always keep us informed, while respecting the wishes of your supplier. Thanks for the heads up about the release date for the new catalog.

I was told back in February that there were BIG changes coming from Lionel and this sure has played out. Let's all hope that these changes with give us the best Lionel ever.

THANK GOD  for both Lionel management and the hobby shop owners comming up with an mth product locator clone! You don't realize how POWERFUL a tool that is to both the consumers and store owners.

For those store owners who refuse to get on board you don't realize the easier $$ that can be made!

Thank you for the info. In Germany, many businesses are run by "Mittlestand" meaning a non-adversarial approach to common issues by all parties. We need this in the USA, where our habit in many instances is a shoot-out at the OK corral, with a lot of wasted time, money and energy. So, Lionel sitting down with a big seller and working through common issues is wonderful.

I believe what you saw was the 2014 Lionel Calendar. I have one and the Little Joe is on the cover of the calendar.

Upon further review, I think you're right.  Sorry for the false alarm.

My thoughts exactly!  Charlie, thanks for your contributions to the forum.

Thats probably the point, theres plenty of those still on the shelves, especially the sharks. I saw the sharks going for $455 at Hobby Station.

Items that do not "move" typically roll over into the next catalog.

No reason for Trainworld to hide the cover, nuthin new on it.

LEAKS!!! WE NEED LEAKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This Milwaukee Road and Northern Pacific addict needs to know what is coming out!   Charlie you could always be the Edward Snowden of the O Gauge world and release the Lionel catalog 3/4 days early!  If you need to flee from Lionel's wrath we could help you flee to Canada!

Those of us who are train addicts...are in dire straights! Please leak some product knowledge!!

WOW Charlie, this is just like those Saturday movies we had as kids which ended on a cliff hanger so you HAD to come back next week. WOW, this is SO exciting.

On a more serious note, great to have the inventory online for ordering.

Thanks for the news on the ’14 preview.

Yes, Same here!!!!!

But I think they will be giving this series a rest for a bit....Frankly, I am getting out of the scale stuff, and sticking with finishing my collection of PWC/CC series!!!!!!!!!

No, Gerry, I'm telling the truth.  I really have no idea what's in the new catalog.  I kind of enjoy being surprised and looking forward to the real thing when it's released.

I don't expect much will be new in the catalog from what Lionel already said that it will be different catalog.  Usually the 1st catalog is primary catalog of the year and 2nd one adding a few new items.  At first Lionel was planning not to have a 2nd catalog this year so I doubt there will be whole a lot of new stuff to talk about anyways.

Here is what I saw:

Weathered Sharknoses-PRR, B&O

Weathered 4-12-2

Unpainted J, GS-2 or 4, 4-12-2, and Mohawk

Some more GP30's

N&W J 611

Seperate sale Texas Special, and PRR F3's from the Neil Young series

UP F3's from NY series

Christmas Story 30 yr ann. boxcar

Where the wild things are boxcar, and one other boxcar that was on the shipping list but not in the catalog.

David

Even though I model the Chessie/CSX I would pre-order that unit in a heartbeat.  Nice call!

I am just asking, if this catalog will go online in the morning, why hasn't LIONEL got a count down clock?

Been reading your replys as I am in Vegas now and since we lost the phone app. can't get back that much. Many changes coming to Lionel, as for the clock, i don't know. But, expect a change in the web site. Lionel will be going back to releasing thier catalogs (AF, RTR and Sign,) all at the same time and back to Feb. instead of March/April. I expect we will see the Fall catalog return and not just as a after thought. Yes this catalog includes the roll out of the new tablet control system. That is the really big news in it. More to follow.

Welcome back Chris! (my son from his honeymoon) He missed the Lionel visit for his new wife! :-)

All the same stuff they can't sell, yawn.

What makes them think weathering locos is going to help them sell? If the weathering looks anything like Lionels  past attempts that look like grey primer overspray..........good luck......blowouts anyone??

RickO, I asked the same exact question.

I think I'll get the weathered 4-12-2 even though I already bought one last year given if the weathering looks good.  I think the features on the 4-12-2 (steam whistle) and blow down effects make it a good buy.  Too bad no mention of VL locos.  Whatever happened to this rumored VL Big Boy coming out?

If people think Lionel is going to have blow outs on their products, you should think again.  I don't think there will be blowouts anymore given the fact that Lionel now will only make to order and will not produce extra given that their cash flow is tight.

It would be great if in this catalog they included a die-cast body Three-bay, open-top Hopper with coal load in the correct Burlington Northern paint scheme, road number, and it must have die-cast roller-bearing trucks. The previous release of a BN open-top hopper had the paint scheme of a smaller, older hopper with journal bearing trucks.

An O Scale Chessie System Three-Bay Open-Top Hopper with coal for C&O, B&O, WM would be great, since there have been enough O scale sized Chessie System diesels made in the past 10 years to match the cars.
