Loads ( pun intended ) of info on the net.  I doubt there's any difference between the PW and modern versions ( I have both ).  Common is simply supplied by the connected track.  The controller supplies hot leads where needed, to the coil coupler bumper and 2 magnets to unload and uncouple the train

Bruce, thanks for the reply and diagram!  Where my confusion starts is that postwar controller has 3 wires and then 1 power wire and the newer version has 5 wires and both a power and ground wire coming out from the controller.

With this in mind, are you saying the 3 wires should be attached for the coil coupler bumper and the 2 magnets and the hot to the power supply and not use the other two spring clips on the bottom of the ramp?

Thanks,

Stuck my foot in it again, Gene.  I opened up my 14005 to get a look at the different controller.  Since there is no detailed schematic I just opened up the controller.  A,B,and C correspond with the white, red and green wires on the 456C, so the three wires from the 456-100 should attach to A,B and C on the ramp.  Simply attach the 3 wires one at a time to test whether they correspond to the correct operation.

Connector D with the yellow wire on the ramp is hot unswitched ( probably feeds constant power to the modern ramp lamp ) and E is common, extra assurance the ramp circuit is complete.

Hope that helps some

Bruce
